NITDA( National Information Technology Development Agency) in partnership with Domineum, presents the NITDA Blockchain Scholarship 2025/2026 programme that will train 30,000 Nigerians to become blockchain developers. This is open to every Nigerian that wants to acquire digital skills in blockchain.

Empowering the Future: Over 20,000 Nigerians Trained Through NITDA’s Blockchain Scholarship Program

In recent years, Nigeria has seen a growing interest in emerging technologies, especially in the field of blockchain. As global trends continue to shift towards decentralization, transparency, and digital empowerment, Nigeria is taking significant steps to ensure it is not left behind. One of the most impactful initiatives leading this transformation is the National Blockchain Scholarship Program, launched in 2022 by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

Since its inception, the program has provided blockchain training and support to over 20,000 individuals from across Nigeria, marking a huge milestone in the country’s digital development efforts.

A Vision Rooted in Empowerment

The scholarship program was more than just an educational initiative. it was a strategic move toward positioning Nigeria as a key global player in the blockchain ecosystem. According to Kashifu Inuwa CCIE, Director General and CEO of NITDA, the initiative was designed to do more than just teach people about blockchain; it was about accelerating adoption and enabling innovation.

The primary objective of this scholarship is to fast-track the adoption of blockchain technology in Nigeria, said Inuwa. By equipping our citizens especially the youth with practical blockchain skills, we are laying the foundation for Nigeria to lead globally in this field.

Bridging the Skills Gap

One of the major challenges in adopting new technologies in developing countries is the lack of skilled professionals. This scholarship program directly addresses that gap by providing comprehensive, hands-on training in blockchain development, use cases, and implementation strategies.

Participants from all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria were given the opportunity to access training resources, attend virtual and in-person workshops, and engage with industry professionals. The diversity of the beneficiaries both in terms of location and background ensured that the initiative had a wide and inclusive reach.

Building a Future-Ready Workforce

The program not only focused on the technical aspects of blockchain but also encouraged participants to explore real-world applications of the technology in sectors such as:

• Finance – with decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms and crypto transactions,

• Agriculture – for supply chain tracking and smart contracts,

• Healthcare – using blockchain for secure patient data management, and

• Governance – promoting transparency through decentralized public systems.

This emphasis on practical, real-life use cases helped spark entrepreneurial thinking and innovation among participants, many of whom have gone on to build projects or contribute to blockchain startups.

For NITDA, the success of this scholarship program is part of a broader national vision. It fits squarely within the government’s digital economy strategy, which aims to transform Nigeria into a knowledge-based and innovation-driven society.
